This
serves as my official candidate statement for the role
of Local Station Board member for WBAI in New York
City. I have thoroughly reviewed the
qualifications, job description, statement about
useful skills and, most importantly, Pacifica’s
Mission Statement.
As
a registered Nurse in NY, NJ and Florida I have been
an active member of the health care community for over
30 years, with 18 years in as hospital administrator
in a large diversified, NYC medical center and over 12
years in the field of wholistic medicine and
professional public speaking. I have created one
of the most successful wellness centers in NYC during
one of the most unpredictable fiscal times we have
encountered in the past 3 years which reflects my
ability to be creative and focused when faced with
adversity. Given
this background I believe I have the integrity,
commitment and wisdom to serve as a member of the
Local Station Board for WBAI so that we can once again
truly manifest Pacifica’s original mission
statement.
What
makes me uniquely qualified is the following:
* my ability to listen to all sides of a situation
without judgment before I respond to it (I have been
involved with heated Union grievances and countless
other stressful conflicts)
* my candid sense of humor which helps to maintain a
healthy perspective ( I integrate quite a bit of
spontaneous stand-up comedy in my public speaking in
order to better connect with people)
* my ability to confront issues while maintaining deep
respect for those who may challenge or oppose my views
* my ability to empower people and inspire them to
action
* my ability to organize systems
* my ability to work as a team member as well as a
leader
* my self confidence and tenacity
* my passion for everything that I engage in
In
most every endeavor I have sought I took what was
nonexistent or barely functional and brought it to a
place of strength, integrity and function. I can
do this for Pacifica as well. I have also
overcome many chronic illnesses using wholistic
approaches and now am a nationally ranked athlete
which makes me a living role model of what we can
become when we approach our adversities with self
actualization and achievement instead of just survival
and victim behaviors.
WBAI
is clearly a forum for communication. The goal
of communication is to be not just heard, but to be
understood. That requires that the communicator
consider what the listener needs in order to best
receive the message. I believe that our goals
include challenging the thinking of our listeners by
offering new knowledge and perspectives and to affirm
the belief systems that will help each person manifest
their own individual greatness for the universal good
of mankind and our planet.
I
believe that WBAI has an enormous responsibility to
its listeners and has only partially met its own
criteria for fulfilling its mission and that my
presence and energy on the Local Board would help to
bring this station to its rightful place in our
community.
Respectfully
submitted,
Luanne
